The Sims introduced its iconic Vibromatic Heart Bed in its Livin’ Large expansion in 2000 — the first time a Sim could get nasty in the franchise, before the term WooHoo was introduced with The Sims 2.
It was available for §4,500 in The Sims’ Buy Mode. Here’s how it was described:
“Our vibrating heart bed was so popular with honeymoon motels, we decided to sell them to the public,” says creator Sadie S. Factor. “The vibration engine is Swedish of course, but we have done a lot of testing with a pair of 300 pound dummies to strengthen the springs, reinforce the stitching and ensure smooth motion to the ocean. Bed comes complete with purple silk sheets and pillow ensemble.
The More Romantic Than You Double Bed — again, heart-shaped — was introduced in The Sims 2 with the Apartment Life expansion; The Vibromatic LN3000 came with The Sims 3: High-End Loft Stuff. But it’s been missing in The Sims 4 — sort of. With The Sims 4’s Basement Treasures Kit, released last year, Maxis added the Disassembled Heart Bed… perhaps a hint at what was to come. For §3,100, you could add a dirty mattress pushed up against the wall, with the iconic heart headboard stacked behind it.
“It’s been over 20 years, yet this old Vibromatic will still have you feelin’ flirty as you recall the good old days when you were livin’ large,” Maxis wrote in the item’s description. “It has a lot of history and it shows. Nonetheless, there’s still some motion in the ocean and maybe the vibration engine could even work again one day. This unique piece captures such a special place in our hearts that we can’t quite part with it.”
But the bed is back — and useable! — in The Sims 4’s Lovestruck expansion. Now called the Vibromatic Nuevo, the iconic bed is priced at §4,500. Here’s its description:
Like the Art Nouveau movement, the Vibromatic has been redesigned with a more modern romantic style. Still equipped with the classic vibration and a backlit headboard, this bed is the perfect combination of fun and flirty.
But you may not be looking for love. The Sims 4: Lovestruck is also introducing the opposite of the heart-shaped bed with the Basic Breakup Double Bed. With an exposed mattress and messy sheets, this is a bed you’re going to be sleeping alone in for a while.
