The original Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine is a textbook example of a cult classic, and thirteen years on from its release, excitement is high for its sequel, which is set to launch later this year. And ahead of its release, it has hit another major milestone behind the scenes.
Publisher Focus Entertainment and developer Saber Interactive have announced that Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has gone gold, which is to say it has wrapped up principal development. Any work that Saber does on the game now will likely arrive in the form of pre-launch or day one patches.
Given the fact that the third-person shooter is still a couple of months away from release, this milestone comes perhaps a little earlier than some would have expected, but it’s reassuring to know nonetheless that the long-awaited sequel is unlikely to get delayed now.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 launches on September 9 for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Though it was originally due to receive a pre-launch beta, Saber Interactive recently announced that those plans had been shelved in order to prioritize focusing on the game’s full release. Read more on that through here.
